St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Alice, has been designated by Bishop Michael Mulvey, as a pilgrimage site in the Diocese of Corpus Christi for the Year of Mercy, (December 8, 2015 - November 20, 2016.)

The Holy Door at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish was blessed on January 25, 2016. We invite you to make a pilgrimage to the Blessed Pilgrimage Door of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish to receive the mercy of God and receive the indulgence, which God is offering us.

Join us at a parish mission entitled “Desiring Heaven: The Crown and the Cross,” Sunday, February 21 through Thursday, February 25, 2016, 7:00 p.m. nightly. Sunday through Wednesday, presentations will be followed by a Benediction prayer service. Confessions will also be heard 5:30

– 6:30 p.m., and 8:15 p.m. to completion. Thursday evening Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the St. Elizabeth Parish Hall (corner of 6th & Almond St.).

Fr. Joseph Aytona, CPM, of the Fathers of Mercy, will provide a dynamic presentation directed toward key aspects of faith applied to life issues. A “parish mission” is a special event for Catholics in which everyone is invited to take part in several days of activity and prayer, all focusing on faith enrichment. Those who attend a parish mission often experience a spiritual renewal, bringing about a deeper love for God, and a revitalization of their personal relationships. 

Pope Francis has stated the following about the Jubilee Indulgence for all the faithful who make a pilgrimage to the Holy Door stating, “I pray that the Jubilee indulgence may reach each one as a genuine experience of God’s mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forgetting completely the sin committed. To experience and obtain the Indulgence, the faithful are called to make a true pilgrimage to the Holy Door, open in every Cathedral or in the churches designated by the Diocesan Bishop, and in the four Papal Basilicas in Rome, as a sign of the deep desire for true conversion.” The Pope added: “It is important that this moment (of pilgrimage to these sites) be linked, first and foremost, to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with a reflection on mercy. It will be necessary to accompany these celebrations with the profession of faith and with prayer for me (the Pope) and for the intentions that I bear in my heart for the good of the Church and of the entire world.”

Monsignor Leonard Pivonka, Dean of the Alice Deanery, and pastor at St. Elizabeth, invites everyone to come to this special parish mission, to walk through the Holy Door, and to experience and obtain Jubilee indulgence at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, a pilgrimage site during this Year of Mercy.
